Self Storage is a great way to store
your belongings. Correct planning will make for an efficient and
cost effective storage experience. If you frequently use the storage
space, consider a slightly larger unit. It may be more convenient
than a smaller unit that is tightly packed.
Below are some handy tips when packing and storing your belongings.
- Create an aisle in the middle
of your unit for easy access.
- Make sure you label your boxes or bins
and have them facing
out to be easily read.
- Be sure to have items you will be needing
more often in the
front of the unit.
- Place mattress and box springs in protective
plastic covers.
- Place heavier objects and boxes on
the bottom and stack lighter boxes on top of them.
- Store small delicate items or clothing
in bureau drawers.
- Remove legs from tables, tie or tape
together. Place hardware in plastic bags and tape to legs.
- When storing lawn equipment, drain
any fluids prior to storing.
- When packing books for storage place
them flat in boxes to avoid damage to the spines.
- Keep a step ladder in your unit for
easy access of boxes and bins on top.
- Store large furniture pieces vertically
such as couches and loveseats.
- Make sure that boxes are taped on the
bottom to prevent "fallout".
- Use a HIGH QUALITY lock, preferably
a "disc lock", for your unit.
